Bombay Bicycle Club Cover (progress)

Finally I added The picture I took on the school field of 4 members of our graphics class.

I am happy with the background and some of the lay out, but If I had the opportunity to re-do this I would definitely take more time in setting up my 'models' so that they correspond with the textual layout.

I added the extra text boxes and text to my copy magazine, a bar code and another picture of kurt cobain which I found on the internet and then changed the colours to black and white so that it would look more identical to the original image.

When moving on to the the second member of the band, I tried to create as close as possible the same pattern as the original. However once applied It really did not work so I decided not to use it.

 I used the lasso tool to go around the 'frontmans' hoodie changing the colour from grey to a red colour so that it would look more like the original copy.

Once I had chose a similar font, I then added drop shadow along with the red and yellow coloured boxes also with a low opacity drop shadow. At this stage I am now adding the text for the subheadings, by resizing and stretching to ensure they're as similar as possible to the real cover.

Using the software 'InDesign' I placed the NME jpeg and added some important guidelines so that when recreating the front cover I will have a better idea of where to situate headlines, subheading and images. Before taking my image of four boys posing I decided to browse for the man type font for 'BOMBAY BYICYCLE CLUB' in 'fontdoc'.

I took pictures of all the different pages of my camera guide/manual and created a gif (:

I then stuck down each piece until I had a long line and begin to fold each page as a concertina fold.

Firstly I trimmed my pages to size using the rotary trimmer, I then folder the pieces so that when I stuck them I'd have a better idea of how each page folds.

After scanning in my hand drawn and inked images, I used the lasso tool to remove the white background.

I then added the information from 'camera research'. It took alot of modifying until I was finally happy with the typefaces, positions and colour scheme. The next stage is to print off the camera manual and physically put it together.

I finally decided to add a final page to my manual/guide because I felt that ending it with instructions didn't look right, so I decided to use some of my hand drawn font, which I previously decided not to use in my manual.

This was my first 'draft' However I decided that for the front cover i would remove the film strip as it took all the focus away from my inked camera (which I didn't want as I spent some time trying to get depth and texture using black ink and a stick. Also I wasn't to fond on the pink girly colour scheme.

Hand drawn experimentation

Experimenting with different materials such as coloured pencil crayons, coloured felt tips, black fine liner, black biro and coloured fine liners when drawing different camera types from different view points.

Using ink and a calligraphy pen I drew images for my final camera manual as well as block text of key words i.e 'aperture'.

I firstly decided to add all the information onto the template, so that that once all the main content was on I could focus on the graphic design and colour scheme.

Camera Research - Sketching + Inking

Finally I added other parts of the camera to my sketchbook, ready to scan into photoshop.

I then began to sketch out a camera, ready for the manual/guides front cover, I then used black ink to add detail and shading to my drawing.

 I then researched all the different functions of a dslr camera.

The task in hand was to create a concertina camera manual, firstly searched for images of already made concertina books to get more of an understanding of the function of concertina booklets.
